Top price of the sale was taken for a large collection of photographs, negatives and plates taken in Nigeria and Western Africa during the 1930’s and covering everyday life in the country at that time. The collection was found in several large trunks in the outbuildings of a local property during the course of a clearance by the auctioneers where they had lain undisturbed for many years. They were bought by a specialist collector, underbid by another, for £3,300. They formed part of a specialist book/ephemera section which saw a copy of John Speed’s Atlas circa 1675-1676 realise £2,800. A large collection of Cotswold books sold well with a copy of Sir Robert Atkyns’ Ancient And Present State Of Gloucestershire selling at £1,550. |
