Sale Report
January – not always the favourite month for auctioneers with vendors uncertain if purchasers have funds left to spend, the threat of bad weather and others simply preferring to wait for early spring, however those who took such a chance found it paid off rather well. The lack of lots to be found on the market increased the demand for those that were available resulting in a virtual clearout for the second month running.

The final clearance of all remaining OO gauge engines and rolling stock again attracted wide interest with every lot selling and totalling £3,209, this was followed by eight lots of railway related books from another deceased estate totalling £1,285. Many of the model engine buyers would not consider them to be toys, however nobody can dispute that a teddy bear is and here a small Steiff bear dating from the mid 1920’s sold for £960. |

Amongst the furniture a good Victorian mahogany extending dining table capable of stretching to around 16 feet but sadly lacking all leaves still achieved £1,300 and a good example of a Georgian mahogany linen press £1,200. Following the success of the oak and country furniture in the Christmas sale a number of entries were received for the January auction including a small Georgian oak pot board dresser at £1,300 another at £780 and another in pine at £500.
A substantial oak dresser by Liberty reached £740 and a local longcase clock by Potter of Wotton £950. Elsewhere an oil on canvas by Oliver Clare, a typical work by this artist of a bird’s nest amongst spring flowers, realised £1,050 and a rare early figure of Dolly by Royal Doulton sold at £1,300.
The February sale will be a three day auction with the first two days running as normal and the third devoted entirely to books, approximately 300 lots and in the main the library of Harold Checkets who was both a teacher and lecturer and after retirement ran a bookshop in Upton Upon Severn, this is his own personal collection and never before available. This section of the sale will be on the company website in about one weeks time.
