Those with ready cash are always pleased to purchase this historic and precious metal. Two lots - an 18ct gold card case enhanced by a sapphire thumb piece and an 18th century gold cigarette case with a combined pre- sale estimate of around £1,000 sold to one such buyer for a total of £3,100, while a further lot including a random selection of scrap gold far exceeded the estimate at £940.
