The saleroom was virtually cleared out
following the auction of February 22nd & 23rd
, a continuing reduced supply in the main due to slow house
sales is partially responsible for keeping demand high and
therefore prices buoyant.
Marine paintings seem to sell whatever
the weather, in this sale we offered three small oils 15 cm x 23
cm by Adolphus Knell – busy shipping scenes in good condition,
they sold for £3,100.
A Georgian bronze medal of a canon on
a wheeled carriage with mahogany base sold at £1,150.
Silver continues to sell well on a
climbing market and around 90 lots totalled £10,223.
A collection of watches including a
Rolex Scientific in poor order sold at £850, and a 14 carat gold
wristwatch by Movado realised £480.
Gold jewellery continues to sell well
with buyers still paying beyond bullion value in some cases.
Amongst the miscellaneous three 19th
century Chinese albums showing everyday scenes in China and laid
onto rice paper sold at £800. A Webley side lever action revolver
sold at £330. A Globe Wernicke oak filing cabinet sold at £540,
whilst the best of the longcases by Griffith of Monmouth realised
£1,200.
The following sale on March 22nd
& 23rd will include around 100 lots removed from Edge
House, Edge and several other good probate instructions.
Any jewellery or silver items which
are selling remarkably well at present can be accepted for the
next sale catalogue until Tuesday 8th March.
